Adi Kailash Trek

Overview

The Adi Kailash Trek (also known as Chhota Kailash) is a sacred pilgrimage and an adventurous trek to the Adi Kailash Peak (5,945 meters) in Uttarakhand, near the Indo-Tibetan border. It is considered a spiritual counterpart of Mount Kailash in Tibet and is revered by Hindus and Buddhists.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Travel via Rishikesh, Almora, Pithoragarh to reach Dharchula, a small town on the India-Nepal border.
  • Stay overnight in Dharchula and get an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for restricted border areas.
  • Travel to Gunji, passing through Najang and Chialekh.
  • Gunji is a small village at 3,200 meters, serving as an acclimatization stop.
  • Stay overnight at Gunji.
  • Travel via Navi Gunji and reach Jyolingkong (4,500 m), the base camp for Adi Kailash.
  • First darshan of Adi Kailash peak.
  • Visit Parvati Sarovar (a sacred lake near Adi Kailash).
  • Om Parvat (3,600 m) is a unique mountain where a natural "ॐ" symbol is formed on the rocky slopes.
  • You can visit Om Parvat before returning to Gunji.
  • Jyolingkong → Gunji → Dharchula → Haridwar via the same route.
